Hurricane Summary POSTED: July 27, 2015 5:45 p.m. Tropical Development Unlikely Despite Low Pressure The Atlantic basin will remain quiet through early this week. Chances for tropical development later this week look slim. The only feature of significance is a stalled frontal boundary off the Southeast U.S. coast extending across Florida into the northeast Gulf of Mexico. Low pressure forming over northern and central Florida along this weak frontal boundary is projected to move northeast into an area of strong vertical wind shear tonight tomorrow and Wednesday. So, tropical development is not expected from this feature as suggested by model output last week. Another surface low forming near the South Carolina coast on Wednesday is now expected to move inland over the eastern Carolinas. That will prevent tropical development. Elsewhere across the Atlantic Basin we find strong vertical wind shear over the southeast coast, Florida and across most of the Caribbean. We are also detecting a large Saharan dust layer covering much of the eastern Caribbean eastward to the African coast. All these negative factors will prevent tropical development for at least the next few days. Model output shows no support for tropical development across the entire Atlantic Basin through the rest of this week and into the upcoming weekend.
